I've finished quilt No. 6 of 2017 yesterday... Barcode Chic (originally chic barcodes I tweaked it a little after the initial post). Barcode Chic This was a slight, very slight, departure from the quilt I usually design.  It's still geometric but less structured.  I even used shot cottons so give it more of an organic feel.  While I've made quilts before with shot cottons I don't think I will use them again anytime soon.  No matter how much I cleaned up the loose threads I still ended up with shadowing and rogue threads after sandwiching, ugh.    Barcode Chic I was able find the perfect backing fabric for this design;Observer by April Rhodes - Speck in Bronze.  I really like shopping for backing fabric, typically online.  When looking for a fabric I want it to be something I like, a medium to large print, in a coordinating color palette that has the right feel or theme as the front.  Sometime this can be very difficult other t...

I'm very pleased to announce that Quiltcon Magazine is available for pre-order at the MQG shop !  I can't wait to see all the quilts especially since I can't go to the show. After the Modern Quilt Guild Showcase at Quilt Festival in Houston, TX I was asked if I would be willing to share my quilt Modern Stepping Stones in Quiltcon Magazine and of course the answer was YES! More Stop Than Go Here's my More Stop Than Go Quilt.  This quilt was inspired by a set of Orla Kiely luggage I own. So I thought I'd share really quickly how I got from my luggage to this quilt.  Here is the inspiration piece: Orla Kiely Luggage Obviously, I really liked the design, I bought it right, and it hit me one day that I could make a quilt like that.  So the first step was to stop and think about what I liked about the design.  For this piece it was the uniform repetition of the cars and the limited high contrast color palette.  After determining what I liked I started with a simple design then added some fancy boarders. My Urban Trek quilt made it back home today!  As promised here are some  additional photographs of the quilt. Urban Trek Quilt When I designed this quilt I didn't have a specific theme in mind and honestly naming my quilts is very difficult for me.  I'd liked to say there is a deep meaning to each quilt that shares a bit of who I am but I can't say that beyond I love quilts.  More than anything I want the quilt's name to describe the inspiration behind the design or sum up a theme in a few short words.  As said before I didn't have a theme for this quilt when I designed it.  It wasn't until I'd pieced the top that I began to see the urban city sights theme emerge, hence the name Urban Trek. I wasn't entirely truthful in my last post about my five favorite finishes in 2016 .  I had to leave out my absolute favorite finish of 2016 because it is in the newest, now available , issue of Modern Patchwork Magazine (squeal)! Modern Patchwork Magazine Mar/Apr 2017 Back in October I submitted my Urban Trek quilt design and about a week later it was booked and I was given a 17 day deadline to make the quilt and write the pattern!  The following day my quilt Optics was reject by the same magazine, whew, and the very very understanding people at Modern Patchwork gave me an extra week to finish.  Here's the crazy part, I had it done by the original November 4th deadline.  I really didn't think I could do that. Cheryl of Meadow Mist Designs is hosting a Best of 2016 Linky Party where bloggers can share their five "best" posts.  I decided to join in the fun and share five of my favorite finishes of 2016! No. 1:  Graffiti Rings I s tarted this quilt in 2015 and 14 months later had finally finished my first double wedding ring quilt!  It was quite the accomplishment and on e done entirely for me.  This quilt isn't going in shows it's going in my family room and I love it. No. 2: Office Day Dreams This design came together so fast and I love how it turned out.  I don't work with prints all that often but I love Me + You batiks by Hoffman Fabrics.
