It Never Rains but It Pours Quilt News

There's been no end to the quilt news coming in this week, a new quilt along, quilt show acceptance, a magazine feature.  So much to share so I'm just going to jump in.

I'm teaming up with my good friend Christa Watson,, to host a quilt along starting in September.  I designed the Infrastructure quilt for Christa's new fabric line Geo Pop and am so excited to be working with Christa again.  I'll be making a version of the quilt in the new Benartex Superior Solids and Christa will be using her fabrics.
If you're interested in getting a head start Christa has kits available on her website and we both have patterns available for sale in our shops.  There will be more information about the quilt along and the fabulous giveaway as we get closer to September.

Next up I have some quilt show news.  Earlier this week I found out that my quilt, Banner Day, will be part of the 2019 Modern Quilt Guild Showcase at the International Quilt Festival in Hou…

Quick Quilt News

School is out and believe it or not that means I have more time to quilt but before the school year wrapped up I made a mini quilt for my daughter's teacher.  CoraJoan picked the subject and helped with the fabric choices.  I raw edge appliqued, my kind of applique, the rainbow and hand quilted the details using Aurifil floss.  CoraJoan picked the pastels and the background fabric.  I can't thank Mrs Simpson enough for two wonderful years as CoraJoan's teacher.

I also found out that my little Chaotic House mini won 18th place in the Quilt Expo Modern Mini Quilt Challenge!  Placing second to last might not seem glamorous but I did win a new ruler rack and I'm always looking for a better way to organize my sewing room.  Unfortunately, part of me knows the only way to solve all my storage 'needs' is to have a bigger room but since that can't happen I'll take what I can get.

I received more great news this week when I found out two of my quilts have been juried into the AQS Grand Rapids show!  Both Colonnade and Maritime will be head to Michigan shortly.

This was the first show that I entered Maritime in so it will be interesting to see how it does.  Maritime was also the first quilt I completed on my longarm.  I definitely ran into some challenges quilting it, unfortunately AQS discontinued judges notes, at least that was true of the last couple shows I had quilts in, I'm sure I would have received some helpful comments.

Both Colonnade and Maritime are available as patterns.  Colonnade is one of the featured quilts and patterns in 2019 QuiltCon magazine and Maritime is a free download on the Robert Kaufman website.  I've also been releasing patterns through out the year at my etsy shop so I encourage you to check that out too.

Summer is going to be packed of fun quilting and quilting news.  I know I will receive notification from three other shows next month alone so I'll do my best to keep everyone posted!

"Sing to God, sing praises to His name; Extol Him who rides on the clouds, By His name Yah, And rejoice before Him. A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, Is God in His holy habitation." Psalm 68:4-5

  1. You gave me a little chuckle this morning, thank you. ITs always nice to begin each day with joy. Congratulations on placing in the challenge and for your win! Both of your quilts are show worthy and it will be fun to see how they do. Too bad they’ve stopped leaving comments. It’s always been such a good way to grow our skills!

    1. Oh I'm glad and thank you! I really love judges comments. Some you have to take with a grain of salt but for the most part they are very helpful.

  2. Congratulations on your wins! It's wonderful to have your work recognized by the judges !

  3. 18th place?!? SO interesting they count that far! But yay for your many successes!

    1. I know it was too funny. It seemed kind of odd that they stopped at 19th place you'd think they'd make it a round 20 ;)
