Quick Quilt News

School is out and believe it or not that means I have more time to quilt but before the school year wrapped up I made a mini quilt for my daughter's teacher.  CoraJoan picked the subject and helped with the fabric choices.  I raw edge appliqued, my kind of applique, the rainbow and hand quilted the details using Aurifil floss.  CoraJoan picked the pastels and the background fabric.  I can't thank Mrs Simpson enough for two wonderful years as CoraJoan's teacher.

I also found out that my little Chaotic House mini won 18th place in the Quilt Expo Modern Mini Quilt Challenge!  Placing second to last might not seem glamorous but I did win a new ruler rack and I'm always looking for a better way to organize my sewing room.  Unfortunately, part of me knows the only way to solve all my storage 'needs' is to have a bigger room but since that can't happen I'll take what I can get.

I received more great news this week when I found out two of my quilts have been juried into the AQS Grand Rapids show!  Both Colonnade and Maritime will be head to Michigan shortly.

Colonnade

This was the first show that I entered Maritime in so it will be interesting to see how it does.  Maritime was also the first quilt I completed on my longarm.  I definitely ran into some challenges quilting it, unfortunately AQS discontinued judges notes, at least that was true of the last couple shows I had quilts in, I'm sure I would have received some helpful comments.

Maritime

Both Colonnade and Maritime are available as patterns.  Colonnade is one of the featured quilts and patterns in 2019 QuiltCon magazine and Maritime is a free download on the Robert Kaufman website.  I've also been releasing patterns through out the year at my etsy shop so I encourage you to check that out too.

Summer is going to be packed of fun quilting and quilting news.  I know I will receive notification from three other shows next month alone so I'll do my best to keep everyone posted!

  1. You gave me a little chuckle this morning, thank you. ITs always nice to begin each day with joy. Congratulations on placing in the challenge and for your win! Both of your quilts are show worthy and it will be fun to see how they do. Too bad they’ve stopped leaving comments. It’s always been such a good way to grow our skills!

    1. Oh I'm glad and thank you! I really love judges comments. Some you have to take with a grain of salt but for the most part they are very helpful.

    1. I know it was too funny. It seemed kind of odd that they stopped at 19th place you'd think they'd make it a round 20 ;)
