QuiltCon Workshops - Catalog now available

Time to register for QuiltCon is fast approaching, June 25th or MQG members and July 10th for non-members, and with the release of the QuiltCon Catalog I am finally able to share more about the workshops I'll be teaching at QuiltCon 2020!!

I'm very excited to announce that I'll be teaching two different workshops and one lecture all focusing on quilt design, a topic I'm very passionate about and hope to encourage other quilters to explore.

Designing Modern Quilts

The first workshop, offered on both Friday and Saturday, is Designing Modern Quilts.  This workshop will go through tips and tricks for successfully designing your own quilts.  You don't need a degree in art history or even be tech savvy to design a great quilt you will be proud to share.  I want to make quilt design approachable to all and describe tried and true techniques in easy to understand terms.  This workshop includes hands on activities that will help quilters jump into design or fine tune how they are currently designing.

Making Color Work

My other workshop is a bit more limited and only offered on Saturday.  Many of you know that when I began exploring my creativity I started with painting.  I mostly worked with oils but I also painted florals and architecture with watercolors.

I fully believe the best way to understand color is to experiment with color and in my Making Color Work workshop we will be doing just that.  The first part of the class I will be walking students through exercises to get them comfortable with colors and how they interact with each other.  The next part of the workshop will be tips on how to apply what you've learned about color to picking fabrics and color palettes for quilt projects.  Finally students will have time in the last part of the class to create their very own watercolor quilt block by implementing what they've learned in the class.

Balance & Depth in Modern Quilt Design

My lecture will be early on Thursday and hopefully be a great jump starter to your QuiltCon experience.  The lecture, Balance & Depth in Modern Quilt Design, will focus on how to add, as the title suggests, balance and depth to your quilt.  These frequently over looked design details can often make the difference between a good quilt a a great quilt.

I'm so honored to be teaching next to all these amazing quilters and instructors and look forward to sharing what I can about quilt design in all my workshops and in my lecture.

"that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God." Eph 3:17-19

  1. Hi Heather! I'm looking forward to seeing you again at QC. I hope your workshops and lectures go well. I applied to teach/lecture too, but was turned down. Obviously, you have what it takes! Congratulations! Have a great time.

    1. Definitely, I'm sure we'll run into each other. My lecture is early Thursday and I think my class is late Friday and the other two workshops are before noon on Saturday, from what I can remember, so I'll have plenty of time to check out the show.
