Aurifil Artisan November Challenge
When I was selected to be an Aurifil Artisan we were asked to sign up for several challenges that we could complete throughout the year. I wasn't sure if I could do the bag challenge but with a little encouragement from my friend Daisy, warmfolk.com, I took the leap and signed up!

Aurifil partnered with both Sallie Tomato and Therm-o-web for the pattern and interfacing which made it so easy to pick a great bag and find all the supplies I needed to be successful. I also dug deep into my stash and chose a "vintage" Melody Miller canvas print. It was a little hard to cut into this fabric but having coordinating Robert Kaufman Essex and Arroyo linens helped.

For the construction of this bag I used matching Aurifil 50 wt threads. These were the perfect weight for the construction and didn't add unnecessary bulk to the seams, which was great when it came to those tight curves. For the top stitching I used a matching Aurifil Forty3, my fav! I love the weight of the Forty3 and how the stitches stand out without overpowering the look.

The pattern was designed for cork fabric but I substituted linen for the straps. I had to adjust the pattern a bit but it worked in the end and for a final touch I added the green and burgundy ball key chain I'd picked up a year earlier. This key chain was the inspiration for the quilting on my Why Knot quilt.
I really enjoyed this challenge and a chance to work on something just out of my comfort zone, now an article of clothing would have really been a stretch.

Cute bag - you really did a nice job on it!! What does the inside of the bag look like??
ReplyDeleteoh it's a linen in blush. I added a pocket with a band of the outside fabric at the top, nothing fancy.
DeleteThis is just fantastic! You sure did finish a wonderful bag since you were not sure that you could complete the bag challenge. I would feel like I was stylin' if I carried this bag around.
ReplyDeleteThanks. It was definitely a stretch for me but I'm glad I did it and I really like how it turned out. I was thinking of taking it to QuiltCon it seems appropriate.
