Infrastructure Week 3 - Row 2

I hope everyone had a successful row 1 and picked up some good tips on fussy cutting and piecing techniques.  Week 3 is all about flying geese and more flying geese but thankfully Christa has included in a the pattern Fast Flying Geese instructions. (To read more about Row 1 click here.)

Infrastructure - superior solids

If you're following along with solids this week we're using Charcoal, Tomato Red, Tangerine and Squash.  Charcoal is the background and the color solids make the geese.

Infrastructure Row 2 fabrics

When you've completed the cutting instructions all the small squares will be in the dark grey and all the larger squares will be in the red and oranges.

Infrastructure Row 2 Units

After all the units are cut it's time to make some flying geese.  Christa has a detail tutorial on her blog for how to make Fast Flying Geese.  This was the first time I'd used this method to make geese and I'm hooked.  I love that there is minimal waste and that they are easy to chain piece.

Infrastructure Row 2 Piecing

After your geese are made and trimmed up to size piece them into columns of three with red on top, the lightest orange on the bottom and the other orange in the middle creating an gradation or ombre effect.  With the Fast Flying Geese method the points on the geese came out near perfect and I couldn't be more pleased with how easy it was.

Infrastructure Row 2 Geese

Once the columns are completed sew the columns together side by side to complete Row 2!  Don't worry if you don't complete Row 2 all in this week next week's row is super easy strip piecing.

"Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.  Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality." 1. Love your choice of solids. I have several good size scraps in bright jewel tones from a quilt I am finishing and I think they would be perfect for this quilt.
